Stadler partners with 3Squared for Competency Management

3Squared has signed a three-year contract with Stadler Rail to provide the Swiss train builder with its RailSmart Employee Development System online and mobile application (EDS).

EDS will capture all information in relation to Stadler’s training and competency management. This includes typical classroom-based training, e-learning and assessments for its engineers and operational staff.

This information will be used then not only to identify any training and assessment requirements within Stadler but also to allow it to identify easily who is fit and competent to carry out tasks throughout its business.

Chris Ebsworth, Stadler’s Competence & Training Manager, said: “Having EDS will ensure that we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time, enabling us to focus our training requirements. This is part of our approach to ensure we have a truly robust and fit for purpose competency management system.”

Stadler’s EDS will not be a stand-alone, rather it will talk to an existing system.

Chris said: “We are developing an interface between EDS and one of our systems that deals with materials, assets and the rail vehicles themselves.

“This will allow us to assign jobs to suitably trained and therefore competent people who have the correct tools and the right materials for the task.”

EDS will be used initially in Liverpool and in Norwich when that site becomes fully operational in December and then any future projects in the UK will also utilise EDS for management of training and competency.

Chris added: “We had been looking to source an electronic CMS system that meets the requirements of our business for some time now and EDS does just that.

“We currently use Microsoft office packages to manage our competency requirements and store all our training expiry and renewal dates. We also use paper-based assessments. All this will be transferred to EDS, putting everything in one easy to reach place.

“3Squared’s EDS is easy to use for assessment and verification. It is a user-friendly app with an excellent reporting system that is perfect for Stadler Rail Service UK.

“Introducing EDS into our business will allow us to spend much more of our time as a training team with our employees rather than being in the office completing paperwork.

“That’s still important and needs to be completed but now it’s all electronic on the EDS app so we can do this with our learners quite easily or on the go in between assessments and training.”

James Fox, 3Squared Commercial Director, said he was delighted to welcome Stadler as an EDS customer. “We are pleased to have such a positive endorsement from a multi-national company.

“The bespoke nature of EDS streamlines the customer’s processes and makes positive differences to the management of competencies.”
